What it really is

TaxBit — enterprise digital-asset tax compliance infrastructure for exchanges, fintechs, and government agencies.

Our take

DB lists TaxBit as consumer crypto tax software at $50/mo with a free trial — all three are wrong. TaxBit shut down its consumer platform on October 30, 2023 and pivoted entirely to enterprise and government compliance infrastructure. It now serves exchanges (Binance, Gemini, PayPal, Revolut), Fortune 500 firms, and public-sector agencies with automated 1099-DA/1042-S reporting, global CARF/DAC8 compliance, and a Subledger Accounting Suite. Pricing is custom/quote-only with no public tiers.

Why we rate it

TaxBit is trusted by some of the largest names in crypto (Binance, Gemini, PayPal, Google) and has reconciled over $500B in digital-asset transactions. Built by CPAs and tax attorneys, it covers the full compliance chain from transaction ingestion to regulatory filing — a genuinely rare combination.

The catch

Zero consumer offering since late 2023. No public pricing means zero transparency for prospective buyers, and the sales/demo-led process adds friction for smaller enterprises. Not a fit for individual investors or small teams.

Best for
Crypto exchanges and fintech platforms needing automated 1099-DA / CARF compliance
Government agencies and regulators investigating digital-asset financial crimes
Enterprise finance teams managing multi-jurisdiction digital-asset reporting
Not good for
Individual crypto investors — consumer platform was shut down in 2023
Small accounting firms or freelancers seeking affordable per-user crypto tax tools
Teams wanting self-serve onboarding with transparent published pricing
Friction report
Time to value
Slow: enterprise sales cycle with demo required before any access; implementation and integration typically take weeks.
Scale breakpoint
Pricing and complexity scale with transaction volume and jurisdictions — global compliance across 70+ jurisdictions requires significant implementation effort.
Walled garden
High: custom contracts, proprietary subledger and reporting infrastructure; migrating out requires full data exports and rebuilding workflows elsewhere.
