What it really is

An open-source, declarative (YAML) orchestration platform for data, AI and infrastructure workflows - build, schedule and monitor pipelines from code or a UI.

Our take

It is a modern Airflow alternative: language-agnostic, event-driven, with 1,200+ plugins and workflows defined in YAML so they are accessible without deep Python. The open-source core is genuinely free and unlimited; governance features (SSO, RBAC, multi-tenancy) and managed Cloud are where it becomes paid and quote-driven.

Best for
Data and platform engineers wanting a modern, declarative orchestrator
Teams that prefer YAML pipelines over heavy Python DAGs
Self-hosters needing unlimited flows and many plugins for free
Not good for
Non-technical business users (YAML still has a learning curve)
Teams needing enterprise governance without a custom-priced contract
Orgs wanting a fully managed cloud at a published, fixed price
Friction report
Time to value
Fast to start: run via Docker and define a flow in YAML from the UI or code; production governance features require the paid editions.
Scale breakpoint
The free OSS edition lacks RBAC, SSO, multi-tenancy and HA, so scaling across teams or regulated environments pushes you to custom-priced Enterprise.
Walled garden
Low lock-in for the OSS core - Apache 2.0, self-hosted, with an upgrade path that just adds a license key.
