What it really is

GoFileRoom — Thomson Reuters cloud document storage for tax and accounting firms.

Our take

GoFileRoom is part of Thomson Reuters' CS Professional Suite, providing cloud-based document management purpose-built for CPA and tax practices. The DB lists a 'free_trial' price tier, but no free trial exists — pricing is entirely custom and quote-based. The ~$60/user/month figure circulates on third-party aggregators, but Thomson Reuters does not publish official rates and requires a sales conversation for all firms.

Why we rate it

Deep integration with the rest of the CS Professional Suite (UltraTax CS, Practice CS, FirmFlow, etc.) makes GoFileRoom the natural document layer for firms already in the Thomson Reuters ecosystem. Audit-trail controls, ScanFlow auto-filing, and enterprise security set it apart from generic cloud storage.

The catch

Opaque pricing requires a sales conversation, no free trial exists, the UI has a significant learning curve, and value is maximized only inside the Thomson Reuters stack — making it a poor fit for firms outside that ecosystem.

Best for
CPA and tax firms already using Thomson Reuters CS Professional Suite
Practices needing audit-ready document trails and version control
Mid-to-large firms with high document volumes and strict compliance requirements
Not good for
Small solo or boutique accounting practices on tight budgets
Firms outside the Thomson Reuters ecosystem seeking open integrations
Teams wanting a free trial or transparent pricing before committing
Friction report
Time to value
Slow: implementation requires onboarding, staff training, and custom configuration — typical enterprise rollout timeline of weeks to months.
Scale breakpoint
Per-seat cost model makes large team expansions expensive; storage quotas may require renegotiation at scale.
Walled garden
High: tightly integrated with Thomson Reuters suite; migrating documents, metadata, and workflows out is non-trivial and rarely supported.
