What it really is

MediCat USB — free Ventoy-powered multiboot USB toolkit for PC diagnostics and repair.

Our take

MediCat USB is a free, community-built bootable USB toolkit that bundles hundreds of IT repair utilities — antivirus scanners, disk tools, password recovery, Mini Windows PE, and more — onto a single 32GB+ drive via Ventoy. The DB summary incorrectly describes a separate EHR product (Medicat EHR for educational health centers); the actual MediCat USB has no connection to healthcare software and carries zero subscription cost. Category 'CRM & Sales' and pricing '$49/user/month' are both mislabels — MediCat USB is entirely free.

Why we rate it

Unmatched breadth for a free tool — it replaces Hiren's Boot CD and dozens of individual bootable utilities with a single rolling-release image. For IT support workflows, the time saved sourcing individual ISOs is substantial.

The catch

Setup demands a 21–22 GB download plus a 32GB USB drive and Ventoy configuration — not a quick install. Rolling releases require manual updates, and there is no official commercial support channel.

Best for
IT techs needing an offline all-in-one PC repair and recovery drive
Sysadmins handling malware removal and disk recovery without network access
Power users who want a single bootable USB replacing dozens of separate tools
Not good for
Non-technical users uncomfortable with bootable USB setup and WinPE environments
Teams needing auditable, enterprise-supported tooling with SLAs
Mac or Linux-primary shops — toolkit is heavily Windows-repair-focused
Friction report
Time to value
Slow: 21–22 GB download plus Ventoy setup on a 32GB drive before first use; experienced techs can be operational in under an hour.
Scale breakpoint
No SaaS scale limit — it is a USB image. Managing updates across a fleet of drives in large IT teams is manual and time-consuming.
Walled garden
Low: fully offline, no accounts or cloud dependency; download the image and own it outright.

Alternatives

Step up

Hiren's BootCD PE for a lighter curated alternative; enterprise IT teams may prefer commercial endpoint recovery platforms with vendor SLAs.

Lighter alternative

Windows built-in Recovery Environment (WinRE) for basic in-OS repair without a separate bootable drive.
