Radix UI is a free, MIT-licensed React library from WorkOS that gives you accessible, unstyled components (Primitives) plus an optional pre-styled set (Themes), icons and colors. It is for React developers and design system teams, and it is still actively released in 2026.

The bottom line

A safe, free default for accessible React components if your team writes its own styles.

What it really is

A free, open source React library of accessible component behaviour, with an optional styled theme layer.

Our take

Radix solves the hard part of interface components: focus traps, keyboard support and ARIA wiring for dialogs, menus and popovers. Primitives leave styling to you, which is ideal for a custom design system and slow for a quick prototype; Themes covers the quick case. Releases continued through July 2026 under WorkOS, so concerns about the project being abandoned do not match the release log.

Why we rate it

It handles accessibility details most teams get wrong, at no cost, with active maintenance.

The catch

React only, and Primitives need you to build every visual style.

Short for React developers: install one package and import components.
Scale breakpoint
Styling effort grows with every Primitive you adopt.
Walled garden
Low: MIT-licensed code you can fork.
