What it really is

ServerPilot — PHP server management panel for cloud VPS providers.

Our take

ServerPilot sits in a narrow but valuable niche: it automates the hardest parts of running PHP apps (Nginx/Apache stack, MySQL, PHP versions, SSL, security patches) on bare cloud VPS instances. DB pricing of '$5/month for the first server, plus $0.50 per app' correctly reflects the Economy tier, though two higher plans (Business at $10/server + $1/app, First Class at $20/server + $2/app) add monitoring and priority support. There is no free tier, but a 14-day no-credit-card trial is available.

Why we rate it

ServerPilot genuinely removes the pain of PHP server ops. Its Nginx + Apache hybrid stack is production-hardened, automated security updates happen without user action, and the dashboard is one of the cleanest in the segment. Hourly billing with instant cost-stop on server deletion is an unusually honest pricing model.

The catch

PHP-only focus is a hard wall — Node, Python, or Ruby workloads are not supported. Per-app fees compound quickly on large multi-tenant setups, and advanced features like email hosting or native Git deployment are absent entirely.

Best for
WordPress and Laravel shops hosting multiple client sites on VPS
Developers who want server-level control without manual sysadmin work
Agencies needing per-app isolation and automated SSL on a tight budget
Not good for
Non-PHP stacks (Node.js, Python, Ruby, Go)
Teams needing integrated email hosting or built-in CI/CD pipelines
High-app-count deployments where per-app fees outpace flat-rate alternatives
Friction report
Time to value
Fast: connect a fresh VPS, run the install script, and have a secured PHP stack with SSL running in under 10 minutes.
Scale breakpoint
Per-app charges ($0.50–$2/app/mo) become a meaningful line item at 50+ apps; flat-rate panels may be cheaper at that scale.
Walled garden
Low: users own their VPS at the cloud provider and can detach ServerPilot at any time; the underlying Nginx/Apache/MySQL config remains intact.
