What it really is

An open-source library, web UI and desktop app for running and fine-tuning open AI models on local hardware.

Our take

Unsloth is a strong first choice if you want to fine-tune an open model without renting a cluster. The free version covers LoRA, QLoRA, full fine-tuning and RL, and the desktop app removes most of the setup that used to scare people off. The paid side is murky: Pro and Enterprise have no public prices and the pricing page lags the GitHub docs. Treat the speed and VRAM numbers as the project's claims and benchmark your own model.

Why we rate it

A free, active open-source project that makes local fine-tuning practical on consumer GPUs.

The catch

Paid tiers are contact-only and the pricing page is out of date; the desktop app is still beta.

Best for
Fine-tuning open LLMs on one GPU
Researchers using free Colab notebooks
Developers wiring local models into agents
Not good for
Teams needing published enterprise pricing
Users who only want a simple chat app
Friction report
Time to value
Minutes to install the desktop app; hours to prepare data for a first fine-tune.
Scale breakpoint
Multi-node training or vendor support means a Pro or Enterprise quote.
Walled garden
Low: open-source code and exports to GGUF and other standard formats.
