Nitro PDF Pro, formerly Nitro Pro, is a PDF editor for Windows, Mac and iOS that edits, converts, compares and signs documents. It suits offices that work in PDFs every day. The Nitro PDF Standard plan costs $15 per user per month, billed annually, after a 14-day free trial with no card.

Nitro Pro is now Nitro PDF Pro

Nitro's download page says the product previously called Nitro Pro is now branded Nitro PDF Pro on Windows, Mac and iOS. The old idea of a one-time Nitro Pro purchase now maps to Nitro PDF Classic, a $270 license that covers three years of use on Windows.

What it really is

A desktop and mobile PDF editor for Windows, Mac and iOS, sold on annual seats, with a separate e-signature product.

Our take

If your team edits, converts and compares PDFs all day, Nitro PDF Standard covers that list on every major desktop platform, and the AI extract tools save retyping tables. It is not much cheaper than Acrobat Standard any more, so compare features rather than price. People searching for the old one-time Nitro Pro license should know that Classic now lasts three years and is Windows only.

Why we rate it

Covers editing, OCR, conversion, compare and AI extraction on Windows, Mac and iOS in one plan.

The catch

Annual billing only for Standard, e-signature costs extra, and the one-time license expires after three years.

Best for
Teams with both Windows and Mac users
Offices converting PDFs to Office formats
Buyers who want a desktop editor, not a web tool
Not good for
Occasional users who need a free tool
Buyers who want month-to-month billing
Friction report
Time to value
Download, install and start the 14-day trial in minutes.
Scale breakpoint
Over 20 licenses, or once you need SSO, you move to sales and the Plus plan.
Walled garden
Low: files stay standard PDFs and export to Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
