Rocket Money (formerly Truebill) is a personal finance app that finds your recurring subscriptions, tracks spending and budgets, and can negotiate some bills for you. The free plan covers subscription tracking and up to 3 budgets in the mobile app. Premium is pay-what-you-want at $7 to $14 a month, and Premium+ costs $15.

The bottom line

A good free subscription audit; pay only if you want deeper budgeting or hands-off cancellation.

What it really is

A subscription tracker and budgeting app with a paid bill-negotiation service, owned by Rocket Companies.

Our take

Rocket Money's best feature is the one in its pitch: link your accounts and it lists every recurring charge, for free. Budgeting on the free plan is thin (3 category budgets, mobile only), so regular budgeters end up on Premium, where you pick a price between $7 and $14 a month. Bill negotiation is useful but not cheap: outside Premium+, Rocket Money keeps 35% to 60% of the first year's savings.

Why we rate it

The free plan answers the question most users start with (what am I paying for every month) without a card, and Premium lets you set your own price within a fixed range.

The catch

Bill negotiation takes 35% to 60% of the first year's savings unless you pay $15 a month for Premium+, and free budgeting stops at 3 categories on mobile.

Best for
People with many recurring subscriptions
Households that want bills and spending in one app
Users who want someone else to cancel subscriptions for them
Not good for
Budgeters who want unlimited categories without paying
Anyone unwilling to link bank accounts to a third-party app
Free users who want to work on a computer (web access is Premium)
Friction report
Time to value
Fast: link your accounts in the app and recurring charges appear once transactions sync.
Scale breakpoint
More than 3 category budgets, web access or partner sharing moves you to Premium.
Walled garden
Transaction exports are listed as a Premium feature.
