Stamps.com is a USPS-approved postage service that lets small businesses and offices print stamps, shipping labels and Certified Mail on their own printers. Plans cost $14.99, $29.99 or $49.99 a month, plus postage, after a 30-day free trial. The $14.99 Basic plan allows only 10 shipping labels a month.
Stamps.com is owned by Thoma Bravo
Thoma Bravo completed its acquisition of Stamps.com on October 5, 2021, for about $6.6 billion in cash, according to the press release filed with the SEC. Stamps.com pages now carry an Auctane Inc. copyright, the same parent as ShipStation, and Stamps.com continues as its own product with separate plans.

What it really is
A monthly postage subscription that turns an office printer into a USPS-approved postage meter.
Our take
Stamps.com makes most sense for offices that send letters, Certified Mail and some parcels and want phone support and user controls. If you mostly ship parcels from an online store, free or per-shipment label tools cost less. If you try it, note the date the trial ends, because cancelling later can still bring one more monthly fee.
Why we rate it
Covers stamps, Certified and Registered Mail and multi-carrier labels in one USPS-approved tool, with phone support from Professional.
The catch
A subscription on top of postage, a 10-label cap on Basic, and a possible extra monthly fee when you cancel after the trial.
Best for
Offices sending Certified Mail
Small businesses mailing letters
Multi-office mailrooms
Not good for
Parcel-only online sellers on a budget
Stores that need ecommerce order import
Very low-volume occasional shippers
Friction report
Time to value
Sign up, start the 30-day trial and print postage on an existing printer the same day.
Scale breakpoint
Basic stops at 10 labels a month; extra locations and users push you to Multi-Location.
Walled garden
Low: postage and labels are standard carrier products, though prepaid promotional postage is tied to the account.
