Google Workspace

Google Workspace combines business email, Drive, Meet and Docs in one paid suite; Business plans cost $7 to $22 per user a month on an annual plan.

Our take: Google publishes clear US prices for Business Starter, Standard and Plus, and the main decision is the payment plan: the annual price is lower and Google's page says it saves 16%, but it locks the licence count until renewal, while the flexible plan costs 20% more per user.

Google Workspace is Google's paid suite for businesses and organizations: Gmail on your own domain, Drive, Meet, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Chat and the Gemini AI assistant, managed from one Admin console. In US dollars, Business Starter, Standard and Plus cost $7, $14 and $22 per user a month on Google's Annual/Fixed-Term Plan and $8.40, $16.80 and $26.40 on the Flexible Plan, while Enterprise is quoted by Google Sales, and a 14-day free trial is offered (US prices read on 3 November 2026). The annual price needs a commitment of one year or more, and cancelling early means paying the rest of the contract.

The bottom line

A full business suite with published US prices from $7 per user a month, where the annual discount comes with a commitment of one year or more.

What it is, and why we rate it

One line each. Open a row for detail.

What it really isGoogle's paid suite of business email, Drive storage, Meet video calls, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Gemini AI, sold per user per month in tiers and run from a central Admin console.
Our takeGoogle publishes clear US prices for Business Starter, Standard and Plus, and the main decision is the payment plan: the annual price is lower and Google's page says it saves 16%, but it locks the licence count until renewal, while the flexible plan costs 20% more per user.
Compare the tiers on storage and Gemini rather than on price alone, because Starter has 30 GB pooled per user and limited Gemini.
Why we rate itPrices and plan terms are public in US dollars and the tiers differ in clear ways, but Enterprise is quote-only, Starter is limited and the annual saving needs a commitment.
The catchThe annual price locks licence counts until renewal with no refund on early cancellation; Starter has 30 GB per user and limited Gemini; prices exclude tax and a domain is extra.

Best / not good for

Best for
  • Organizations that want business email on their own domain
  • Teams that edit documents together in the browser
  • Buyers who want published per-user prices
Not good for
  • People who only need free personal Gmail and Drive
  • Organizations above 300 users that need a published price
  • Teams that cannot commit to a year but need the lowest price
Trade-offs

Friction report

Trade-offs to know before signing up.

  1. Time to value
A 14-day free trial for up to 10 users starts online; Google's FAQ says setup and migration with its guides carry no extra cost and that a domain is bought separately.
  2. Scale breakpoint
The Business plans stop at 300 users; beyond that Google points to Enterprise, which is sold through Google Sales.
  3. Walled garden
Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive and Meet is not supported on Business Starter, and Vault and advanced endpoint management start at Business Plus.

From Google's pricing page (workspace.google.com/pricing), read with a US-located request on 3 November 2026, and Google's help articles on payment plans and Business editions (both last updated 2026-10-26 UTC). US dollars before tax; regular prices, not the limited-time introductory offer for new customers that the pricing page showed. Google says Annual/Fixed-Term payment options vary by region, subscription type and how the subscription was bought, and that prices are also shown in other currencies. The Business plans can be bought for a maximum of 300 users. Google's Business editions article says pooled storage is granted in stages: part at purchase and the full amount after a $30 USD payment, which can take up to 72 hours to show. A research browser outside the US saw euro prices on the same pricing page, so figures differ by region.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Google Workspace cost per user?

Google's US price for Business Starter is $7 per user a month on the Annual/Fixed-Term Plan or $8.40 on the Flexible Plan; Business Standard is $14 or $16.80, and Business Plus is $22 or $26.40, all in US dollars before tax. Enterprise has no listed price and is quoted by Google Sales. Google's pricing page also showed a limited-time introductory offer for new customers, which this page does not count (checked 3 November 2026).

What is the difference between the flexible and annual plans?

On the Flexible Plan you are billed monthly, can add or remove users at any time and can cancel without penalty, while the Annual/Fixed-Term Plan needs a commitment of one year or more and costs less per user. Google's help article says users can be removed only at renewal, and that cancelling before the renewal date charges the remaining balance of the contract with no refund. For Business Starter that is $7 per user a month on the annual plan against $8.40 on the flexible plan (checked 3 November 2026).

Is Google Workspace free?

No, the Business and Enterprise plans are paid, but Google offers a 14-day free trial to new customers. Google's FAQ says the trial is limited to 10 users, needs billing details and charges only after the trial ends. Free options sit elsewhere: personal Gmail is at no cost, free Google Drive users get 15 GB, and Google lists Education Fundamentals at no charge for qualifying institutions (checked 3 November 2026).

What is the difference between Gmail and Google Workspace?

Gmail for personal use is free, while Google Workspace is the paid suite that adds a custom business email address on your own domain, administrative controls for user accounts and 24/7 phone and email support, according to Google's FAQ. Storage differs too: Google says free Drive users get 15 GB, and Business Starter lists 30 GB of pooled storage per user.

Is Google Workspace the same as Microsoft Office?

No, they are different products from different companies. Google's FAQ says Workspace apps run without installing software and can open and convert Microsoft Office files. Microsoft's US business plans page lists web and mobile apps only for Business Basic and desktop, web and mobile versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook for Business Standard with Copilot.

How do I sign in to Google Workspace?

Conversion Gems is a review site and cannot sign anyone in. Google's FAQ says administrators reach the Admin console at admin.google.com and sign in with their email address and password. That address redirects to Google's standard Account sign-in page at accounts.google.com.
