What it really is

A lightweight browser mind map editor with argument-map and org-chart layouts, priced per person or per seat.

Our take

Mindmup is quick to learn and cheap to keep, which is why schools and note-takers have used it for years. The free plan is now a trial in all but name at 3 maps, and the pricing page advertises several features that are not live yet. Buy it for fast, structured maps today, not for the roadmap.

Why we rate it

Fast keyboard editing, useful layouts and low prices for individuals and schools.

The catch

The free plan stops at 3 maps, and AI, presentation mode, the desktop app and real-time collaboration were still marked 'soon'.

Best for
Students and teachers outlining ideas
Argument and debate mapping
Small teams that want cheap shared map spaces
Not good for
Whiteboard-style workshops
Users who need many free maps
Teams that need live co-editing today
Friction report
Time to value
Minutes: open the site and start a map without signing in.
Scale breakpoint
A fourth map pushes you to Personal; sharing with a team needs a 3-seat Team plan.
Walled garden
Low: PDF, PNG and JPG export on all plans, more formats and Google Drive storage on paid plans.
