Conversion Gems editorial verdict
2.99% per card payment; no subscription
Features6/10
6 - covers card bill pay, card acceptance, financing, bulk payments and approvals, but no wider AP or spend management.
Value5/10
5 - no subscription, but 2.99% per payment plus $0.99 to $39 delivery fees is pricey next to Melio's free ACH allowance.
Ease of use7/10
7 - self-serve sign-up and a mobile app; delivery methods and fee add-ons take a moment to understand.
Ecosystem6/10
6 - syncs with QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, Oracle NetSuite and Xero; few other named integrations.
Support5/10
5 - a support portal at support.plastiq.com; we could not verify live chat or phone hours on the vendor's pages.
What it really is
A pay-by-card bill payment service with a free card acceptance product, now owned by Priority Technology Holdings.
Our take
Plastiq is useful when a supplier won't take cards and you need 30 to 60 days of float, or want to hit a card's spending bonus. The fees are clear and published, which many payment tools can't say. For everyday bills the 2.99% fee plus delivery usually costs more than the rewards you earn, so treat it as a cash-flow tool.
Why we rate it
Published fees, no subscription and syncs with four accounting systems.
The catch
2.99% per payment plus delivery fees, and a 2023 Chapter 11 history.
Best for
Paying card-unfriendly suppliers by card
Short-term cash-flow float
Taking card payments without merchant fees
Not good for
Routine bills where ACH is free elsewhere
Earning net-positive card rewards
Friction report
Time to value
Same day: sign up online, add a card and a vendor, and schedule a payment.
Scale breakpoint
At high volume the 2.99% fee adds up; a subscription AP tool may cost less.
Walled garden
Low: payments sync to QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, NetSuite and Xero.
