Proton Sheets is an end-to-end encrypted online spreadsheet built into Proton Drive, for people and small teams who keep sensitive numbers in spreadsheets. It is free with any Proton Drive account, including the 5 GB Proton Free plan. Paid Drive plans, from $47.88 a year for 200 GB, add storage rather than spreadsheet features.

What it really is
The spreadsheet editor built into Proton Drive, with end-to-end encryption and real-time co-editing.
Our take
Proton Sheets earns a place for anyone whose spreadsheets hold sensitive numbers, because it costs nothing on top of a Proton account and encrypts content and metadata. It handles budgets, trackers and shared lists well. It is a first version, though: no documented macros, no API, and a feature set well short of mature spreadsheet apps. Keep exports in XLSX or CSV so you can move later.
Why we rate it
Encrypted spreadsheets with co-editing at no extra cost.
The catch
Basic feature set, no documented macros or API, and 5 GB free storage shared with your files.
Best for
Sensitive budgets and client lists
Proton Mail and Drive users
Small teams sharing trackers
Not good for
Power users relying on macros or add-ons
Large data models and heavy analysis
Friction report
Time to value
Minutes: sign in to Proton Drive and create or import a sheet.
Scale breakpoint
Outgrowing 5 GB free storage or needing functions and automation Sheets lacks.
Walled garden
Low for data (XLSX, CSV, TSV export); high for integrations, with no published API.

Proton Sheets is Proton's spreadsheet app. It opens XLSX files and exports back to XLSX, CSV or TSV, but it is a lighter web editor rather than a full Excel replacement; no macro support is documented.
It covers everyday work such as formulas, charts, sorting, conditional formatting and real-time co-editing, and it encrypts your data end to end. It is newer and has fewer advanced functions and integrations, so test your own files before switching.
Drive Plus (200 GB) is $4.99 a month or $47.88 a year. Proton Unlimited (500 GB plus Mail, VPN and Pass) is $12.99 a month or $119.88 a year. Drive Professional for teams is $9.99 per user a month or $95.88 per user a year (checked 4 October 2026).
