Hubdoc is Xero's bill and receipt capture tool: it extracts the key figures and creates transactions in Xero or QuickBooks Online with the document attached. It is included with Xero business plans, and on its own costs $12 a month after a 30-day free trial.

Hubdoc is part of Xero

Xero announced its acquisition of Hubdoc on 31 July 2018, and the product is now branded Hubdoc from Xero. Xero retired Hubdoc's automatic supplier-portal fetching on 27 April 2022 (28 April in Australia and New Zealand).

On 2 July 2026 Xero announced Smart Document Capture, a capture tool built into Xero itself. We found no announcement ending Hubdoc, and its pricing and sign-up pages remain live.

What it really is

Xero's bill and receipt capture tool that feeds documents and extracted data into Xero or QuickBooks Online.

Our take

For Xero customers Hubdoc is an easy yes: it is included, it takes receipts by phone or email, and it attaches the document to the transaction. It has lost some ground: supplier-portal fetching ended in 2022, and Xero is now building its own Smart Document Capture inside the ledger. QuickBooks Online users pay $12 a month, which is reasonable for unlimited documents.

Why we rate it

It removes manual data entry for bills and receipts and keeps the paperwork with each transaction.

The catch

No supplier-portal fetching since 2022, and Xero's newer built-in capture tool may overlap it.

Best for
Xero users capturing receipts and bills
Bookkeepers serving small clients
QuickBooks Online users wanting simple capture
Not good for
Users of accounting software other than Xero or QuickBooks Online
Firms needing custom parsing rules
Anyone expecting automatic fetching from supplier portals
Friction report
Time to value
Minutes: sign up with Xero and forward or snap the first receipt.
Scale breakpoint
One plan only; larger firms get no advanced tiers.
Walled garden
Medium: built around Xero and QuickBooks Online.
