Autodesk's Revit is Windows software for building information modeling (BIM), a model-based way to plan, design and coordinate buildings, used by architects, structural, MEP and civil engineers and construction teams. Autodesk's US store lists a standard subscription at $380 monthly, $3,005 for a year or $9,020 for three years per user, plus Flex pay-as-you-go tokens, and the prices below were checked on 2 November 2026. Revit LT, a simplified single-user edition, costs $70 monthly or $560 a year, and a free trial and free educational access also exist.

The bottom line

A professional BIM tool with no free plan beyond a trial and education access, where the billing term, the named-user rule and the choice between Revit and Revit LT decide the cost.

Our takeRevit is Autodesk's full BIM tool, priced in its US store at $380 monthly, $3,005 for a year or $9,020 for three years per named user.
The cheaper route is Revit LT at $70 monthly or $560 a year, which Autodesk describes as a simplified single-user tool. Autodesk's own FAQ and AEC Collection page disagree on the collection's price, so use the price card at checkout.
Why we rate itAutodesk publishes every plan price, return window and named-user rule, but its FAQ and AEC Collection page state different prices for the collection.
The catchOne named user per subscription, up to 3 devices with one sign-in at a time, Windows only, and no perpetual license.

Best / not good for

Best for
  • Architects and engineers who deliver projects as shared BIM models
  • Teams that can budget a named-user subscription for each modeler
  • Students and educators who qualify for free educational access
Not good for
  • Anyone who only needs to view or share Revit files, who can use the free Autodesk Viewer
  • Mac-only users, since Autodesk says Revit does not run natively on macOS
  • Buyers who want one license shared between several people
Trade-offs

Friction report

Trade-offs to know before signing up.

  1. Time to value
Autodesk points trial users to a Revit Quick Start Guide and says sample content is on the Home screen once Revit is open.
  2. Scale breakpoint
Each additional modeler needs a paid seat: five seats on the annual plan come to $15,025 a year at $3,005 each, and Autodesk no longer sells new multi-user subscriptions.
  3. Walled garden
Revit runs on Windows only, and when a subscription ends you keep free viewing of project files but may lose cloud storage granted by the subscription after 30 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an Autodesk Revit subscription cost?

Autodesk's US store lists a standard Revit subscription at $380 monthly, $3,005 for a one-year term (shown as $251 a month) and $9,020 for three years, per user in USD. Flex pay-as-you-go starts at $99 for 33 tokens, and Revit LT is $70 monthly or $560 a year. Autodesk's FAQ lists the AEC Collection at the same three amounts as Revit, but the AEC Collection page says 'Starting at $307 / month', so read the collection's own price card before buying (checked 2 November 2026).

What is Revit and what does BIM mean?

Revit is Autodesk's BIM software, where BIM stands for building information modeling, a model-based way to plan, design and coordinate buildings. Autodesk lists architects, structural, MEP and civil engineers and construction professionals as its users, and its page names parametric components, project sheets and schedules, worksharing, Dynamo and API access, and Twinmotion for Revit among the features. Autodesk's page is for Revit 2027, and Revit runs on Windows (checked 2 November 2026).

Can I use Revit for free?

Only in limited ways. Autodesk offers a free trial, free access for verified students and educators, and a free browser-based Autodesk Viewer for opening Revit (.rvt) files, but using Revit for work needs a paid subscription. Educational access may be used only for educational purposes, not for commercial or for-profit work. Autodesk's Revit free-trial page offers a 30-day trial (checked 2 November 2026).

What is the difference between Revit and Revit LT?

Autodesk describes Revit LT as a simplified BIM tool for 3D architectural design and documentation in a single-user workflow, with basic structural modeling. Revit adds advanced simulation and analysis, worksharing and collaboration, and MEP and construction modeling toolsets. In Autodesk's US store LT is $70 monthly or $560 a year, against $380 monthly or $3,005 a year for Revit (checked 2 November 2026).

How many computers and users does one Revit subscription cover?

One named user. Autodesk says a Revit subscription is assigned to one named user, who can install it on up to 3 computers or other devices but can sign in on only one at a time. A subscription cannot be shared between people; more users need more seats, and Autodesk says it no longer sells new Revit subscriptions with multi-user access (checked 2 November 2026).

What happens if I cancel or let a Revit subscription lapse?

Autodesk says that when a Revit subscription expires you can no longer use the software or its cloud services, but you can still view and share projects with its free viewers, and you may lose cloud storage granted by the subscription after 30 days. It also says an expired subscription cannot be renewed and a new one must be bought, and that automatic renewal can be turned off in your Autodesk account. Return windows are 30 days for annual and multi-year plans and 15 days for monthly plans (checked 2 November 2026).
