About community engagement tools
Community and engagement software serves 2 different audiences. Some tools host communities of customers, members or fans, such as Circle.so for paid memberships and Discord for always-on voice and chat; others engage employees, such as Guusto for recognition and glint survey for employee feedback. A third group coordinates people, like SignUpGenius for school and volunteer sign-ups. Pricing follows the audience: member platforms tend to charge a flat monthly fee, while employee tools often price per person, sometimes with seat minimums. 29 of the 54 tools have a free plan.
What to compare before you choose
Who the community is for
Start with the audience. Circle.so is rated for paid membership communities leaving Facebook Groups and Discord for gaming communities that need always-on voice, while Guusto suits HR teams whose frontline or hourly staff lack company email, and glint survey suits enterprises already on Microsoft 365 and Teams.
Public community or internal chat
Team chat is not community hosting. Our review of Slack notes it has no public community features and points to Discord or Circle instead; Discord, in turn, is a poor fit for formal business communication or for teams that need audit logs, compliance controls or end-to-end encryption.
Flat fees, per-person pricing and minimums
Headline prices can mislead: glint survey starts at $2/user/mo but requires 50 seats on an annual plan, so the real floor is about $100 a month. Circle.so starts at $89/mo billed annually, and Guusto has a free plan, with its Lite tier from $150/mo.
